frequently with his wife Adelle. Foley's books include Gershwin, Adrift nominated for a Bay Area Book Reviewers' Award), Exiles, and (with Ivan Arguelles) Requiem and Saint James. Foley also does a weekly radio show on Berkeley station KPFA and a weekly column, "Foley's Books," for the online magazine, "The Alsop Review."
Adelle Foley is a widely-published poet, an economist and an arts activist. Her book of haiku, Along the Bloodline, is forthcoming.
THE CURRENT STATE OF POETRY. Jack & Adelle Foley showcase their work and will perform pieces having to do with "the current state of poetry"--followed by a talk with participants about their own writing. Time will be allowed for everyone in the class (including Adelle and Jack) to write a new poem. Then participants read these poems aloud and discuss them. We'll also talk about the multi-media situation we inhabit and what that might mean for poetry.
Jack & Adelle, Sharon Doubiago, Nico Vassilakis and Robin Schultz will participate in a round-table discussion on their poetics and reason for writing and after a break will read their work. This event is an alternative to the annual over-hyped, alleged football game. 30 person limit on workshop enrollment - Limited teen scholarships available - $20 suggested donation for the workshop, $10 for students/seniors/low income. Advance reservations are recommended as the SPLAB! is an intimate space. This event made possible with assistance from the Washington Commission for the Humanities and the King County Arts Commission's Special Projects program.
