My new book was conceived sometime late in 1997, and when Joanne Kyger came to SPLAB and heard me talk about the history of Auburn, Washington (how it was originally named Slaughter after Lt. William A. Slaughter and how they blew up the Stuck River a couple of times), she suggested I write a Paterson for Slaughter. This was March, 1998.

Bookfest prep in full swing

Whew! We’re super busy gearing up for an incredible weekend at Bookfest. We’re sponsoring the Poetry Stage, and there’s a full line-up of incredible local poets. We’ve got volunteers lined up for our booth, marketing materials at the printer, and lots of little details to work out before Saturday. Come visit us and hear some great poetry.

SPLAB Living Room: Read. Listen. Be Inspired. STARTS OCT. 27!

Come to read new work for an intelligent critique, come to read someone else’s work that you find inspiring, or compelling, or come just to be in the engaging company of other writers. In the 2nd floor lounge of the Columbia City Cinema EVERY TUESDAY 7-9 PM, 4816 Rainier Ave S, in a room that looks a lot like the old SPLAB in Auburn, with thrift store couches and paint peeling from the ceiling. We’ll be there and hope you will be there too. $3-$10 suggested donation benefits SPLAB and helps us put on other events.
