Graham Isaac Book Release Party

From Graham Isaac:

Hi!
It’s been about four years since the last one, but I’m pleased to announce that I’ve finished a new chapbook, called Filthy Jerry’s Guide to Parking Lots, out this month on Babel/Salvage. (it didn’t take four years for this book, I’ve been doing other things as well.)

Filthy Jerry’s Guide to Parking Lots

To celebrate, we’re having a shindig Best price on propecia in Belltown at the Rendezvous Jewelbox Theater, Sunday, February 17th at 7pm. There’ll be books for sale, I’ll read, and there will also be sets by Emily Wittenhagen, Jason Conger Word Orchestra, Ryan Johnson and the debut of comedy duo The Great Consultation. We’re asking a $3-5 suggested donation.

I’d love to see you there– you may or may not have been pinged by me on facebook about this, but studies have shown that it’s far more meaningful to have your name personally entered into a bcc field.

Check out Babel/Salvage (and pre-order FJGTPL) here, or check out the facebook invite (this link should work even if you aren’t logged into/don’t have facebook).

thanks! I will see your faces soon.

Chicago School of Poetics Fundraising Campaign

One of the more interesting, non-affiliated poetry programs in the country is in my hometown. Check this out and support if you have even $10:

CSoP

CSoP

CSoP offers compelling poetry classes without the MFA time commitment, pressure, or price tag. (Fear-free)

What is CSoP?

The Chicago School of Poetics (CSoP) offers poetry writing classes (on location at the Chicago Cultural Center or online). We don’t teach creativity. Here poets can refine their craft via close readings and in-class discussion of selected poems and of one another’s work—with an emphasis on Female viagra approaching and evaluating each work on its own terms. CSoP classes blend lecture, critical reading, writing, and group critique. Poets are free to generate new work and share poetry in a supportive environment—without the MFA time committment or exorbitant price tag.

CSoP unique offerings include Pulse Poem Pulse, Dream Journaling, Queer Poetics, Documentary Poetics, Hybrid Texts, Risk: Writing at the Edge, The Poetry of Cubism, Erasure to Automatism, Personal Archaeology, Working Poets, and Publishing. How our classes work

Many students who have taken CSoP course offerings have already gone on to publish poems written in class.

The Return of ModPo

From Al Filries:

Dear Paul Nelson,

I am thrilled to announce that we are now taking enrollments for the second running of ModPo. Here’s the link:

ModPo Team

ModPo Team

We start on Saturday, September 7. Ten weeks plus two days later, on Monday, November 18, we will conclude with another final live webcast gathering.

Most – and possibly all – of the ModPo TAs will be back, although some of them will no longer be in Philadelphia. Julia Bloch, our fabulous lead TA, will again be in that role.

With a few exceptions (we’re adding Wallace Stevens, for instance!) the poets and poems will be the same. The discussion in the forums will be new, of course – and once again we will host a series of live webcasts so we can respond to some of your questions and comments.

If you didn’t finish the course but enjoyed the parts you completed; if you finished but would like to delve deeper into the poems; if you enrolled last time but never really took the course at all – I certainly hope you will re-enroll. The link above takes you to a page where you can register.

If you have friends or family members who might enjoy the ModPo experience, please forward this message and encourage them to give it a try. The first of prednisone side effects two introductory videos (5 minutes long) can be found on the main ModPo registration page. The other introductory video – 20 minutes long, with all the TAs – can be found on YouTube here:

The current ModPo site, which you asked us to keep open, will close on September 6. The second ModPo course site will be at a different address and you’ll have to re-enroll in order to have access to the ModPo materials after 9/7/13. Meantime, I’m enjoying the ongoing discussions in the forums of our original site, as well as our discussions in the ModPo Facebook group and around our twitter feed (@ModPoPenn).

With best wishes from 3805 Locust Walk in Philly, where, by the way, you are always welcome! Always.

McClure in the New Yorker

McClure New Yorker

McClure New Yorker

I was delighted when Greg Bem sent me a link that led to Michael McClure featured in the New Yorker, of all places.

http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/books/2013/01/poetry-questions-michael-mcclure.html

His poem Mephisto 20 is published there, though you need to be a subscriber to see it on their site. Thoreau, Goethe, Hua-yen Buddhism and other topics come up.

You can see McClure’s Mephisto 18 and 19 in the latest edition of Pageboy Magazine. (& hear an alternatives to tamoxifen interview with Thomas Walton of said mag here. McClure’s 80th birthday tribute page is here.)
