Living Room Tuesday, April 24 Text Corpse (7p)

Cell Phone

Text Corpse

Exquisite Corpse- a French Surrealist game in which a poem is passed around and participants add the lines with limited knowledge of what was previously written.

Text message- brief communication between two mobile devices.

We will be combining these two things. A prompt will be texted to everyone and then we will build a text corpse.

This will be a rare moment when you will be asked to bring your cellphone to a poetry event. Jeremy Springsteed is your fearless leader, but he is on another call right now. Leave a message & he’ll call you back as soon as he is able.

Diane diPrima Very Ill

Michael McClure wrote:

Diane di Prima

Diane is suffering with several painful and even
life-threatening illnesses, including removal of all teeth, arthritis
from her earlier back operation, extreme problems with glaucoma and a
needed operation; but that’s just the top of the list. Despite all, she
is in unexpectedly fine spirits. If you know of any way to help her, she would appreciate it and I would also.

Also this:

Help Poet Laureate and feminist icon Diane Di Prima through a series of painful and life threatening operations.

Poet Laureate of San Franscisco and feminist revolutionary icon Diane Di Prima has inspired so many of us for over 50 years, whether we know it or not. She was one of the only women of the Beat Generation and was instrumental in shaping the way we view gender based politics. She was homies with Ezra Pound! She has published over 4 dozen books of poetry! She is the mother of 5 children!!

Diane is undergoing a series of painful and difficult surgeries, including having all her teeth removed. Without going into any more details, let’s talk about what we can do for a woman who did so much for the advancement of women. If you or someone you know has been inspired by Diane personally or by her large body of work over the last 50 years, please donate anything you can to help her get through this intensely difficult time and the many operations that she is about to go through. Your donation will go towards rehabilitation and medical costs.

Tuesday April 17 An Average Day in the City Living Room Jaunt 7P

Columbia City

An average day in the city: on the bus, a child mothers a crying parent; a homeless woman peers into the window of a toyshop; a statue in the park seems it has something to say. Beauty lies in the midst of such incongruities, and in those incongruities, poems are poised, waiting for us to find them. Tonight at Living Room, we’ll take a short jaunt outside, walk in silence, and, noticing things our eyes often pass over without really seeing, find newly poetic moments. We’ll return to compose poems and share the moments that we have discovered in finding new ways to say the unsayable. Jeanine Walker is your fearless leader.

Writers of all ages, backgrounds and skill levels gather Tuesdays at 7P to read new work, the work of someone else or to just be in the engaging company of other writers. Your donation of $5 helps SPLAB continue our programming. Please bring 8 copies of the work you plan to read. Copies are no longer provided by SPLAB.
